| Abstract | Chlorophyll-a concentration values are estimated from in situ radiance measurements and ocean color remote sensing data. Both estimations are compared to concentration values obtained from fluorescence measurements. Ocean color data was provided by the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) satellite. The global empirical algorithm OC2v4 was used to estimate the clorofila-a concentration from the detected radiance values in multiple wavelengths. In situ data includes measurements collected during an oceanographic cruise in the Brazilian Southeast coast in May 2003. A spectroradiometer was used to measure radiances, and a profiling natural fluorometer (PNF), to measure fluorescence. In addition, ocean water samples were collected in order to perform laboratory clorofila-a fluorometric analysis. The comparison of in situ and remote sensing data was difficult due to the poor number of match-up's, obtained for only three stations. Results show that a further investigation is required in order to evaluate the OC2v4 algorithm for data related to that coast, and possibly propose a regional version. | |||
